Ellen's story to beat Type 2 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes, with around 3.6 million people in the UK diagnosed with the condition. ICS Health & Wellbeing are one of the four providers who are delivering the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme throughout the UK to tackle diabetes head on.
We asked one of our service users, Ellen, about her experience on the Cheshire Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, and she shares her story with us. After the doctor recommended she join one of our programmes, Ellen decided there was nothing to lose by enrolling and it could only help her become healthier. Having completed the programme, Ellen now feels much healthier and energetic having lost weight and reduced her waist measurement.
What was your favourite part of the programme?
My favourite part of the programme was the weekly meetings; it was great to have the opportunity to talk to other members in the same situation about their ideas and tips. It was the perfect way to keep me on track and motivated to carry on.
What was the hardest part of the programme for you?
The hardest part for me was to schedule in the weekly meetings around my work diary; however I did and I’m glad I could as they were crucial in keeping me inspired and enthusiastic.
Did you feel supported throughout the process?
I felt incredibly supported throughout the whole process, not only from my coach but also from the group members and the programme booklet to refer back to if needed. Overall there were lots of sources of encouragement and support which I will continue to use now I have finished the 12 week programme.
Will you continue to follow the programme now you have finished?
I will definitely continue to follow the programme. I have learnt so much from this course has and it’s had a positive effect on my health and lifestyle so it would be silly to not carry on. I would definitely recommend this programme to anyone at risk of Type 2 diabetes.
