Jennifer’s diabetes prevention journey

What did you enjoy about the programme?

This was an interactive programme. Theinformation was relayed in the way a lay person could understand. Everyone felt comfortable within this group. The sessions were relevant and well delivered.

Do you have any advice for those starting on the programme?

To be open minded to trying new and different ways of approaching the way you usually do things. You will make positive changes for the better and healthier lifestyle.

Do you feel confident to say that you know how to prevent Type 2 diabetes?

Yes, this made me more aware of what I was putting into my mouth. I am now reading food labels and mindful of what I need to do to reduce stress.

How did you feel the facilitators were at the sessions?

The facilitators were able to give relevant information and ensure we understood what each topic was about. They were able to put you at ease and the sessions were fun.

What did you enjoy about the programme?

I enjoyed the structure of the programme and the way the sessions were laid out each week. I was able to follow the instructor’s delivery. The group motivation was very good and made me come along each week.

Do you have any advice for those starting on the programme?

Go along to the programme, the first session will make you realise why you should continue to take part in the programme.

What key learnings did you take from NDPP?

Understanding what diabetes is and the key messages to avoid getting it. Learning about the glucose and carbohydrates whilst having visual aids really made this easier to understand.

What was your greatest achievement?

Sticking to what I have learnt. I’m now more active thanks to learning about resistance exercise. Eating more fruit and vegetables make me feel healthier and I am now living a healthier lifestyle.
