Alan’s diabetes prevention journey

Alan, from Wokingham in Berkshire, was referred by his GP from Brookside Surgery following a Hba1c blood test that showed he was in the Pre-Diabetic range. Being told this brought on a mixture of emotions for Alan. He felt he needed more information and support on reducing his risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes.

What was the best part of the programme for you?

The best part of the programme for me being in a group environment and the support was excellent in every way, I have nothing negative to say! The healthy lifestyle advice I was given about nutrition and physical activity was easy to follow, particularly with the support from the Health & Wellbeing Coaches – they made every session enjoyable and highly informative.

What was the hardest part of the programme for you?

Finding a structure that’s best suited to me.

What did you think of the support groups?

Excellent, in all ways, no negatives from personal experience.

Did you find the plan easy to follow?

Yes due to assistance I was given by health coach.

Did you feel supported throughout the process?

Definitely, all health coaches were very supportive, making sessions enjoyable but highly informative.

How has the programme changed your life?

Made me feel a lot happier in my own well being.

Will you continue to follow the programme now you have finished?

Definitely.

Would you recommend the programme to others, and why?

Yes, until someone goes on the programme they would not understand the benefits of it.

If so what has the improvement been?

There’s been a massive improvement in my overall health and life expectancy. The programme has helped me reduce his HbA1c to a normal range, guided me in managing my stress and I’m sleeping much better now.

If you’re like Alan and need support to change your lifestyle for the better, please book an appointment with your GP.
