Rachel's diabetes prevention journey in Luton

What was the best part of the programme for you?

Being online/remote has really helped save me so much travel time. The information was very helpful and knowing about the hormones related to exercise has inspired me to be more active. Being held accountable has been really helpful and the encouragement and support from the coach has been amazing.

What did you think of the support groups?

The group has helped me to lose weight and remain focused. It’s been really helpful to have the accountability and support from the group and coach. I have been inspired by listening to the progress and challenges of other participants. One good aspect of the online sessions is being anonymous, as you ‘meet’ with other people but aren’t being made aware of my own body image or comparing myself to others.

Did you feel supported throughout the process?

All the emails and text messages were good and calls from the coach helped to encourage me to participate. Emails with links to online documents were particularly helpful.

How has the programme changed your life?

I can now fit into the clothes I want to wear. I love how my body shape is changing. I am pleased that my abdominal pain has now gone away. I am much more aware of what I am eating and that is helping me to eat better and in a more balanced way.

Will you continue to follow the programme now you have finished?

Oh yes! I do not want to return to being at risk of having Type 2 diabetes. I also want to keep myself fit and healthy to reduce my risk of catching things like COVID 19. I want to stop being in the ‘at risk’ population.

Would you recommend the programme to others, and why?

Yes, very much so... I would be happy to do the course remotely or F2F. I have been able to reflect on my situation and take steps forward.
